I saw Mommy with Santa Claus (by Ona C) |
As adults our faith isn't quite as strong. Sometimes we doubt what we believe to be true. Maybe you are like me and doubt that promise God gave you to take care of your needs and some of your wants.
Well that reminds me of the a story that started a few posts ago.
After Elisha had taken the army to Samaria they left went home. Well one day Ben-Hadad sent his entire army to lay siege on Samaria, they blocked the road and set up camp.
The price of food was so high that the Samaritans were starving. Some of the people resorted to eating their neighbors children. A women who gave up her son for food, hung onto the promise that her neighbor would do the same. That wasn't going to happen so she sought the king. Who put a price on Elisha's head.
Elisha told the king that the next day the price of food would be down and there would be plenty. There was a catch, the king would not get to eat any of this plenty.
The story goes on to tell us about how the King heard the opposing army has deserted their tents. Leaving plenty of food and there belongings. Does the king praise God for the food good people need?
No, he says, it is a trick and tells the people to stay clear. Finally he sends troops to see what happened and they say the other army did leave everything. As he releases the people he is trampled to death.
How often are we like the king of Israel? We have no faith that God will provide, then when he finally provides we think it is a trick. I know I am guilty of that. I crave the faith of a child. I want to believe but there are days when it is just plan hard. I pay for God to help my faith.
What do you do when you seem to be lagging in faith? Do you have a specific memory of a time that God took care of your needs, that you fall back on?
